The Battle of Zama marked the end of the 2nd Punic War.  The Roman army finally won a decisive battle against Hannibal and the Carthaginian military that had dominated the battles in Southern section of Italy.  Hannibal had 80 of these War elephants, over 50000 troops, and more than 4000 cavalry up against Scipio's 35000 infantry and 8000 Cavalry.  The War Elephants used in this battle were newly trained and were easily destroyed by Scipio's Legions.  The technique used by the Roman forces was to make holes big enough for the elephants to pass between them, and then they would pick the elephants off one at a time.
