There-after, surrounded on all sides by newer, more vigorous states, and with its own financial and manpower resources progressively shrink-ing, the once all-powerful empire slipped into a steady decline which, with occasional, sometimes quite lengthy periods of remission, was to gather speed gradually and eventually prove terminal. However, the empire's decline was anything but peaceful and in one way or another, the last four centuries of the Byzantine empire were a period of almost constant war.  Perfect piece for most medieval military diorama setups.
